Settings

API keys, watched repos, schedule, and tone. Keys live in .env.local (never the database). Everything else is stored in Postgres.

API keys

Anthropic API key

Set

.env.local → ANTHROPIC_API_KEY=…

How to get this key

Go to console.anthropic.com and sign in (or create an account).
Add a payment method if you haven't already. The validation call this page makes costs less than a thousandth of a penny; the real draft generation in Stage 5 costs a few pence per week.
Click Get API keys in the left sidebar, then Create Key. Name it something like build-in-public-studio.
Copy the key (starts with sk-ant-…) — you won't see it again after closing the dialog.
Open .env.local in this project root (create it from .env.local.example if it doesn't exist) and add the line:

```
Restart the dev server (Ctrl+C, then npm run dev) — Next.js only reads .env.local on startup.
Reload this page, then click Test connection.

.env.local → GITHUB_TOKEN=…

How to get this key

Go to github.com/settings/tokens?type=beta — that's the fine-grained personal access tokens page (more secure than the classic ones).
Click Generate new token.
Name it build-in-public-studio. Pick an expiration (90 days is sensible — you'll need to regenerate when it expires).
Under Repository access, choose Only select repositories and pick the ones you want this app to read. (You can edit this later.)
Under Repository permissions, find Contents and set it to Read-only. Everything else can stay at "No access".
Click Generate token and copy the value (starts with github_pat_…).
Add to .env.local:

Restart the dev server, reload this page, click Test connection.

Pick the repos this app will pull commits from each week.

Reddit auto-generation

Pick the subreddits each project should draft for automatically when you click Generate. Up to 3 per project. Leave all unselected to keep Reddit off for that project (no Reddit calls). Manage the list of subreddits below. You can still add a one-off sub from any moment's Reddit tab.

Manage subreddits

The catalog of subreddits you can target. Adding needs only a name — tone and rules are optional (a sub with no rules still drafts, using a generic journey steer). Filling the self-promo rule powers the pre-post checklist that helps drafts clear mod filters.
